ABOUT THE ARTIST
Gizella Popescu
Gizella Popescu is a Romanian contemporary artist, currently living and working in Bucharest.
In recent aesthetics, the works explore the idea that style should reflect the artist’s views of the world in an honest way. Our constant struggles for finding meaning within our reality, our assaulted senses being tested for their limits on a daily basis, all create a universe where constancy is merely an illusion.
The works focus on the fluidity of memory, between traditional legacy and contemporary archetypes. The artistic gaze surprises the characters in often distorted, ironic, striking and mystical scenes, inviting the viewer into a world that slightly resembles reality, but actually hints more at the complexities of the interior world, where freedom, thought, vices and emotions all cohabitate and communicate.
